A dispute has emerged in the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) over the recommendation of senior vice president Rabindra Mishra as a candidate for the upcoming election scheduled on Falgun 21.
The party had circulated directives to regional committees to recommend candidates. However, in Kathmandu-1, two separate lists of recommended candidates have surfaced, creating tension.
One faction, in a meeting held on Poush 1, recommended former president Pashupati Shamsher Rana, co-treasurer Sovit Upreti, and others for direct seats. According to Madan Das Shrestha, a senior party advisor and artist, the meeting prioritized Rana first, followed by Upreti, Pratima Thapa Shrestha, and Rameshwar Shrestha. This group reportedly intended to promote Upreti as the candidate, leaving Mishra out.
Subsequently, on Poush 6, another meeting chaired by regional president Rameshwar Shrestha recommended a different list, placing Mishra at the top, along with Rameshwar Shrestha and Ram Tuladhar, but excluding Sovit Upreti.
Central member Ranjan Karki, considered close to Mishra, stated that the Poush 6 recommendation is the official decision. He also claimed that the earlier meeting was unauthorized despite its prior claims.
Sources indicate that Upreti, who has reportedly lost twice from Kathmandu-1, is attempting to position himself as the candidate by sidelining Mishra. Meanwhile, Mishra is actively seeking to secure the ticket for himself.
