Nepali Congress leader and former minister Pradeep Paudel has said that the party should complete its 15th General Convention and contest the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21 with a new leadership.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday morning, Paudel emphasized that the party must elect new leadership through the convention, adopt policies in line with the spirit of the Gen Z movement, and energize the organization before entering the elections. The Nepali Congress has decided to hold its 15th General Convention in Kathmandu from Poush 26 to 29.
Paudel stated that holding elections on the scheduled date reflects the sentiment and aspiration of the Gen Z movement, adding that the party’s priority is elections, not the reinstatement of parliament. He also urged the government to ensure a free, fair, and impartial environment for the polls.
“The convention schedule may not be very practical and could slightly change, but the general convention must be completed before the general election,” he said.
Paudel also informed that party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has already given clear instructions to party leaders and office-bearers to conduct the convention on time and is keen on transferring leadership soon. He added that although he was unsuccessful in his bid for the post of general secretary during the 14th General Convention, he will contest again for the same position in the upcoming 15th General Convention.
