Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the party’s general convention may be postponed for some time.
Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Tuesday to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Koirala said that although interest in the general convention has increased, it is not an unusual issue.
He stated that the general convention is a regular process of the Nepali Congress and is held every four years, adding that there is no need for excessive concern over it. Clarifying that he does not intend to deliberately delay the convention, Koirala said some postponement could occur due to complications in the distribution of active membership without serial numbers. However, he made it clear that he personally favors holding the general convention on Poush 26 as scheduled.
Expressing dissatisfaction over repeated questions regarding the convention, Koirala said, “The Nepali Congress general convention is a regular process. It happens every four years and will continue to happen. I find it difficult to understand why there is so much concern about it. Sometimes, it even feels irritating.”
He also claimed that holding elections on the date set by the government for Falgun 21 is not possible, stating that there is currently no visible election atmosphere anywhere in the country.
