Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’, General Secretary of the CPN (Maoist), has stated that Nepal’s political situation remains mired in transition and crisis.
Addressing the party’s central committee meeting that began Thursday in Budhanagar, Kathmandu, Chand noted that the ongoing electoral process is at a crossroads.
He highlighted that debates continue over whether to follow the exit strategy proposed by the government or to create a new political environment before implementing it. Chand said, “The elections are currently at a crossroads. There is debate over whether to follow the exit plan proposed by the current state and government or to create a new environment before that. At a time when credibility is lost and the situation is unhealthy, it is necessary for all parties to proceed toward a resolution in a balanced manner.”
Chand emphasized that the political transition and crisis in Nepal remain unresolved. He expressed dissatisfaction that the main demands of the people have not been addressed even after the Gen-Z revolt. He noted that while the Gen-Z movement proposed actions such as taking action against corrupt officials, ending corruption, rewriting the constitution, and directly electing the executive head, these demands have not been fulfilled.
He criticized the interim government led by Chief Justice Sushila Karki for focusing solely on elections rather than broader reforms. Chand said, “Nepal is still in a state of political transition and crisis. Even after the Gen-Z revolt, major demands of the people have not been addressed. The movement proposed punishing corrupt individuals, ending corruption, rewriting the constitution, and ensuring the executive head is directly elected. However, the interim government under Sushila Karki has focused only on elections, leaving rebels, the Gen-Z activists, the public, and political forces dissatisfied.”
