The East–West Mahendra Highway, which had been blocked since Tuesday morning, has reopened a short while ago.
The highway was obstructed after a gas bullet tanker overturned near Lamaha Bridge in Chandrapur Municipality–4 of Rautahat district.
According to Rajendra Thapa Magar, Police Inspector at the District Traffic Police Office, around 21 tons of gas inside the tanker were released overnight before the tanker was removed.
Six cranes were used to clear the tanker from the road. Earlier, small vehicles had been diverted through the Chandranigahapur–Gaur alternative route.
