An elderly couple were murdered on Tuesday night in Bhadaule, Chisankhugadhi Rural Municipality–6 of Okhaldhunga district. Sixty-year-old Shobhitman Thapa Magar and his wife Ratnamaya Thapa Magar, who had been living alone at their home, were killed by an unidentified group using a sharp weapon.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning after the couple did not come outside until late. Neighbors grew concerned and called out to them from outside the house, but received no response. Suspecting something was wrong, they went inside and found both of them dead, according to local residents. As their children live away from home, the couple had been staying alone.
Considering the seriousness of the case, the Okhaldhunga District Police Office has deployed a trained tracker dog from the canine unit of the Koshi Province Police Office in Dharan. A police team led by Inspector Bikram Bahadur Bhattarai has sealed the crime scene and begun a detailed investigation. “The dog was brought to the crime scene during the night itself. Preliminary examination indicates the use of a sharp weapon,” Inspector Bhattarai said. “We are currently monitoring suspicious individuals, but no one has been arrested so far.”
Police said the bodies will not be removed until a thorough examination of the crime scene is completed with the help of the tracker dog. A few months ago, a similar incident occurred in Siddhicharan Municipality–4, where 52-year-old Ratnakumari Katwal Karki was murdered inside her home. The perpetrators of that case have yet to be identified.
