The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case related to government land in Kaski district. According to the charge sheet filed today at the Special Court in Kathmandu, 3 ropani of land belonging to Shree Samudayik Amar Jyoti Basic School, located in Ward No. 26 of Pokhara Metropolitan City, was illegally registered in the name of defendant Bhim Bahadur B.K. and his related individuals.
The CIAA stated that its investigation confirmed that the then chairperson and members of the Land Commission abused their official positions and unlawfully allocated government/public land. The defendants were found to have misused decisions of the Squatters’ Problem Resolution Commission to illegally benefit Bhim Bahadur B.K., who was not a squatter.
It was further revealed that the land was allocated based on documents that were not recorded in official government land records. According to the details made public by the CIAA, the charge sheet includes five defendants. They have been charged under Section 8(1) of the Corruption Prevention Act, 2059 (2002), with a claimed loss amount of NPR 14.025 million, and the commission has sought imprisonment and fines accordingly.
The main defendants include then Chairperson of the National Land Commission, District Committee Kaski, Ganga Prasad Pokhrel; members Ramchandra Adhikari, Ash Bahadur Gurung, Uma Kumari Thapa, and Sombahadur Nepali; along with land recipient Bhim Bahadur B.K.
CIAA Spokesperson Suresh Neupane said the defendants abused their authority to gain illegal benefits and caused financial losses to a public institution, adding that necessary legal action will be pursued.
