Nine candidates from Jhapa have been included in the CPN-UML’s proportional representation list. Jhapa is also the home district and parliamentary constituency of UML Chair KP Sharma Oli. While nine candidates from Jhapa feature on the list, UML has not nominated any proportional candidates from 21 districts across the country.
According to the closed list submitted to the Election Commission on Poush 14, the candidates from Jhapa are Anita Subba, Vidyananda Rajbanshi, Narmada Devi Siwakoti, Menuka Kafle, Lata Prasain, Nita Ghatani, Jitu Darji Gautam, Som Portal, and Bina Sah Mahato.
After Jhapa, UML has included seven candidates each from Kathmandu and Dhanusha. From Kathmandu, the list includes Lucky Sherpa, Mina Baramu, Kulbhakta Shakya, Buddhabhakta Chitrakar, Sanumaiya Khadka, Maya Devi Podeni, and Nirmal Deula Pode. From Dhanusha, the candidates are Urmila Devi Paswan, Yashoda Kumari Yadav, Manju Mahato, Renu Sah, Arvind Sah, Ram Charitra Sah, and Chandreshwar Yadav. Dhanusha is the home district of newly elected UML Deputy General Secretary Raghuveer Mahaseth.
Similarly, four candidates have been included from Dang, the home district of UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel. They are Komal Wali, Anjila Thapa, Shanta Chaudhary, and Sajida Khatun Siddiki. Wali and Chaudhary had previously served as lawmakers. In contrast, no candidates have been included from Rupandehi, the home district of UML Vice Chair Bishnu Paudel.
Overall, UML’s proportional list shows representation from 56 of the country’s 77 districts, leaving 21 districts with no representation. The districts without any UML proportional candidates are Taplejung, Terhathum, Okhaldhunga, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Makwanpur, Gorkha, Manang, Baglung, Nawalpur (Nawalparasi East), Rupandehi, Salyan, Western Rukum, Dailekh, Dolpa, Jumla, Bajura, Doti, Dadeldhura, and Baitadi.
