Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is holding discussions with senior leaders from the party’s establishment faction over the controversy surrounding the party’s 15th General Convention.
The meeting is taking place on Sunday at Deuba’s private residence in Maharajgunj. Current and former office-bearers of the establishment group, along with leaders from the party’s executive committee, are participating in the discussions.
According to a leader present at the meeting, the main focus of the talks is how to respond to and possibly prevent the firm stance and preparations of General Secretary Gagan Thapa, who is determined to hold a special general convention.
The party’s executive committee has already endorsed, by majority, a schedule to hold the regular general convention from Baisakh 28 to 31.
However, General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have stated that, in line with the party statute, the demanded special general convention must be held within the month of Poush.
NC leader Ramesh Lekhak confirmed that the meeting is currently ongoing.
