The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is holding a unity declaration program today, bringing former leaders from the Tharuhat movement into the party through an event in Kathmandu.
The unity assembly will take place at 1:00 pm on Monday at the Rastriya Sabha Griha, where party chair Rabi Lamichhane and other senior leaders are scheduled to address the gathering.
According to RSP spokesperson Manish Jha, the party is uniting with Tharuhat leaders including Laxman Tharu and Surendra Chaudhary. They were previously leaders of the then Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) led by Ranjita Shrestha. Former Rupandehi district chair of NUP and a total of 33 leaders are set to formally join the RSP today.
Former minister Ranjita Shrestha has already joined the Nepal Communist Party. Leaders and cadres dissatisfied with her decision are now entering the RSP.
Earlier, the RSP had reached unity agreements with the group led by Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah on Poush 13 and with the Ujyalo Nepal Party on Poush 14.
In line with that agreement, the RSP has appointed Balen Shah as a senior party leader, while 26 leaders from his faction have been nominated as central committee members.
