The travel restrictions imposed on CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli have been lifted. The Investigation Commission probing the incidents of Bhadra 23–24 decided to remove the ban on Oli’s foreign travel and the restriction preventing him from leaving the Kathmandu Valley.
At a meeting held on Monday, the commission revoked its earlier decision that barred Oli from traveling abroad and restricted his movement outside the Kathmandu Valley. The commission had recorded Oli’s statement on Sunday, after which the movement restriction was lifted, according to commission spokesperson Bigyan Raj Sharma.
Issuing a press release on Monday, the commission stated that the justification for maintaining the restrictions had ended. The statement said that since the commission has completed questioning Oli and gathering necessary information regarding the actions he took in his capacity as Prime Minister in relation to the incident, the decisions restricting his foreign travel and movement outside the valley were no longer necessary and were therefore withdrawn.
The commission had earlier, on Asoj 12, 2082 (Nepali calendar), imposed a ban on Oli’s foreign travel for investigation purposes and had also decided that he could not leave the Kathmandu Valley without the commission’s approval.
