Nepal suffered a defeat against visiting team Scotland in a practice match played as part of preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
In the match held on Friday at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal lost to Scotland by 27 runs. Chasing a challenging target of 184 runs set by Scotland, Nepal were restricted to 156 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
For Nepal, Samjhana Khadka was the top scorer with an unbeaten 52 runs. Kavita Kunwar remained not out on 29, captain Indu Barma scored 28 runs, and Kabita Joshi contributed 22 runs.
In bowling, Scotland’s Darcy Carter picked up three wickets, while Katherine Bryce, Olivia Bell, and Chloe Abel claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Scotland scored 183 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Katherine Bryce scored an unbeaten 62 runs, while Priyanaz Chatterjee added an unbeaten 40 runs. For Nepal, Rubina Chhetri and Kavita Kunwar took two wickets each, while Riya Sharma and Rachana Chaudhary picked up one wicket apiece.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier will be held from January 12 to February 1 at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur and the Mulpani Cricket Ground. Nepal have been placed in Group B and will play their first qualifier match against Thailand on January 18.
Group B also includes Scotland, Thailand, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands. All qualifier matches will be played at the TU Cricket Ground and the Mulpani Cricket Ground, and the Nepali squad for the qualifiers has already been announced.
A total of 10 teams are participating in the qualifiers. Group A consists of Bangladesh, Ireland, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Namibia, and the United States. Nepal will play their second match against the Netherlands on January 22, face Zimbabwe on January 24, and play their final group match against Scotland on January 26.
The top four teams from the qualifiers will earn a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, 2026.
