The Nepali Congress special general convention is being inaugurated today at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu. Registration for participating delegates will begin at 8:00 a.m.
According to the Secretariat of the Second Special General Convention Management Committee, delegate registration will take place from 8:00 a.m. at the stall located near the main gate of the convention venue. Delegates are required to present an identity document, submit one passport-size photograph, and pay a registration fee of NPR 1,000.
The convention is scheduled to be inaugurated under the chairmanship of Kathmandu District President Sabuj Baniya. Following the opening ceremony, a closed session will begin, which will be chaired by the party’s senior-most member.
The special general convention was demanded by 54 percent of the party’s general convention representatives, who submitted signatures in accordance with Article 17(2) of the party statute. Based on this provision, General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma convened the convention.
The establishment faction of the party has rejected the special general convention and has instead called separate meetings of district presidents and youth leaders on the same day.
The convention will continue until Monday. Representatives from outside Kathmandu arrived in the capital on Saturday, and the Secretariat has stated that rallies will also be organized from various locations prior to the inauguration.
