Nepali Congress leader Gopal Man Shrestha has said that the party cannot secure its future by remaining limited to past achievements and stressed the need to change thinking, working style, and leadership in line with the times.
Considered close to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, Shrestha reached Bhrikutimandap on Sunday in support of the special general convention. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, he said that while the Nepali Congress can take pride in the historic role it has played, it can no longer move forward by relying only on that legacy.
Recalling the party’s decisive role from ending the Rana regime to the fall of the Panchayat system and the establishment of the republic, he said those achievements are worthy of respect but are not enough to face today’s challenges. He emphasized that the party must now advance with new thinking to respond to changing circumstances.
Shrestha also pointed out that with changing times, generations and public expectations have changed, making generational transformation in leadership unavoidable. He said the party must change its working style and bring new youth forward, adding that young people should be promoted into leadership roles across the country.
