The Nepali Congress is holding a closed session today as part of its second special general convention. The convention, which has been underway at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu since Sunday, held its inaugural session on the first day, while the closed session has been scheduled for today.
According to Convention Publicity Committee Coordinator Subas Pokharel, the closed session will begin at 10:00 am at the hall in Bhrikutimandap. The session will start by finalizing the working procedures of the special general convention. After that, nine groups will be formed to conduct policy discussions on four major issues.
Pokharel said detailed deliberations will be held on constitutional amendment, policy and leadership, governance reform, and contemporary issues. Following the policy discussions, there will be an extensive debate on whether or not to change the party leadership. If a decision is made in favor of leadership change, an election committee will be formed and further procedures will be initiated.
Pokharel also expressed the view that there is a possibility the new working committee will be elected unopposed, making voting unnecessary.
Meanwhile, the registration of general convention representatives will continue until 11:00 am today. According to Area and District Coordination Committee Coordinator Yuvraj Pandey, most representatives from various districts arrived only this morning and have been participating in the registration process that began at 8:00 am. Arrangements have been made to keep the registration open until 11:00 am.
