Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has convened a meeting in which party leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has also participated.
Dr. Koirala arrived at Deuba’s Maharajgunj residence along with Co-General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar, Badri Pandey, and leader Minendra Rijal to attend the discussion called by Deuba for central committee members close to him.
The Deuba faction began strategic consultations while the closed session of the special general convention was ongoing at Bhrikutimandap. With the special convention faction already presenting a proposal in the closed session to dissolve the Central Working Committee elected from the 14th General Convention, Deuba called this meeting to seek a resolution to the party’s current crisis.
Earlier, Dr. Koirala had held discussions with leaders close to him. According to sources, those leaders entrusted Koirala with the responsibility of mediating talks between President Deuba and General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma to resolve the party dispute. Preparations are underway for Koirala to move forward in the role of a mediator.
Leaders close to Deuba said the meeting is expected to hold in-depth discussions on the impact of the special convention’s decisions, possible legal options, and strategies for upcoming elections. Although the establishment faction has continued to term the special convention illegal, the participation of a majority of delegates has made the situation more complex.
