
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Kathmandu today to formally deliver an invitation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for his upcoming visit to India. He came to Nepal at the invitation of Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai. This marks his second visit to Nepal since assuming the position of Foreign Secretary.
During his stay, Secretary Misri is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Oli to hand over the invitation letter sent by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Following this, he will pay a courtesy visit to President Ram Chandra Paudel at Sheetal Niwas. He will then hold separate discussions with former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba at Budhanilkantha, and with former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at Khumaltar.
A bilateral meeting between Secretary Misri and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai will also be held to finalize the agenda for PM Oli’s India visit. According to a press release from the Ministry, the discussions will focus on various aspects of Nepal-India partnership, including connectivity, development cooperation, and other mutual interests.
Following these talks, arrangements will be made for a bilateral meeting between PM Oli and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, at Hyderabad House, Bodh Gaya, or another designated location. Secretary Misri will also meet Foreign Minister Dr. Arjun Rana Deuba today. A dinner has been organized in his honor by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On Monday morning, Secretary Misri is scheduled to visit the Pashupatinath Temple.
At Tribhuvan International Airport, Misri was welcomed by Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Joint Secretary Gehendra Rajbhandari, among others. He is scheduled to return to India tomorrow.
