On the occasion of Maghe Sankranti, eight buses have been providing free transportation services in the Devghat area. With the initiative of the District Administration Office, Chitwan, and support from PABSON, free bus services have been arranged for devotees traveling to and from Devghat.
According to Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal, the buses began operating from Aptari in Bharatpur Metropolitan City–1 starting at 6:30 am today. The service is being provided to pilgrims traveling to Devghat and returning from the Devghat area, and will continue as long as there is pressure of devotees.
“We have started the free bus service targeting senior citizens and other devotees,” CDO Aryal said. He added that the route has been arranged via Aptari–Ramnagar–Devghat and back to Aptari to ensure devotees do not face difficulties reaching the highway.
Every year on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti, a large number of pilgrims visit Devghat for ritual bathing and to attend the fair. Considering the difficulties senior citizens may face while walking long distances, the free bus service has been arranged.
The Devghat Area Development Committee has estimated that around 300,000 devotees will visit Devghat for ritual bathing this year. The Makar Sankranti fair officially began on Wednesday morning with the raising of the ceremonial pole at the confluence (Weni).
