The first meeting of the central working committee led by Gagan Kumar Thapa, elected after the special general convention of the Nepali Congress (Gagan group), has been concluded.
The meeting, held at a party palace in Kupondole, Lalitpur, decided to inform the Election Commission today itself about the decisions taken by the special general convention, newly elected central committee member Ajay Babu Shivakoti said.
Newly elected office-bearers and members of the central working committee were present at the meeting. The special general convention, convened by the faction supporting the convention and ongoing since Poush 27, unanimously selected a new central working committee under Thapa’s leadership earlier today.
In this context, a separate meeting of the central working committee held on Wednesday at the party office in Sanepa under the chairmanship of acting party president Purna Bahadur Khadka decided to expel General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwoprakash Sharma, along with Co-General Secretary Farmullah Mansur, accusing them of acting against the party statute.
Following this disciplinary action, the internal dispute within the Nepali Congress has intensified. As tensions escalated, both factions of the party have approached the Election Commission seeking official recognition.
