The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) has called a meeting of its central secretariat to finalize candidates for the elections scheduled for February 21.
According to Min Bahadur Shahi, coordinator of the party’s Publicity and Publication Department, the meeting has been scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 pm.
As per the election schedule, candidate nominations are set to take place on Magh 6 across all 165 constituencies. Party leaders said the meeting was convened to finalize candidates in line with the nomination timeline.
So far, the names of around 35 leaders, including party chair KP Sharma Oli, have been unanimously recommended. Since no decision has been made to form an electoral alliance with any other political party, the CPN-UML is preparing to field candidates under its own election symbol, the ‘Sun’, in all constituencies.
Shahi also said the decision to finalize candidates at the secretariat level was taken keeping in mind the time required for candidates from remote areas to reach their respective constituencies for nomination. An earlier central committee meeting had entrusted the final responsibility of candidate selection to the secretariat.
