An objection has been filed at the election office against the candidacy of Resham Chaudhary, a candidate of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP). The complaint was lodged on Wednesday at the Office of the Election Officer for Kailali Constituency No. 1, challenging his nomination.
The election office has informed Chaudhary to submit evidence in response to the objection by 10 am on Thursday.
The complaint demands the cancellation of Chaudhary’s candidacy, stating that the Supreme Court had sentenced him to life imprisonment in connection with the Tikapur killings. Although Chaudhary was later released from prison after receiving a presidential pardon, the complainants argue that his candidacy should be invalidated on legal grounds.
