The Office of the Chief Returning Officer has rejected a complaint filed against Madhav Kumar Nepal, a candidate for the House of Representatives from Rautahat Constituency No. 1, by refusing to register it and placing it in abeyance (darpeeth).
The complaint, which sought to cancel Nepal’s candidacy, was rejected on the grounds that it lacked sufficient evidence. The office declined to register the complaint, stating that adequate proof had not been provided.
Another House of Representatives candidate, Ramnaresh Rai Yadav, had submitted the claim and objection against Nepal. In the complaint, Yadav alleged that Nepal was involved in the Patanjali Yogpeeth land purchase and sale case and that a corruption case against him is under consideration at the Special Court, demanding that Nepal be declared ineligible as a candidate.
Yadav had argued that Nepal’s candidacy should be annulled by citing various provisions of the Corruption Prevention Act and the House of Representatives Member Election Act.
However, the Office of the Chief Returning Officer concluded that the allegations mentioned in the complaint were not supported by concrete and sufficient evidence. According to the office, since there was no strong legal basis under the law to invalidate the candidacy, the complaint was rejected. With this decision, Madhav Kumar Nepal’s candidacy remains valid.
