The newly-elected Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress, led by Gagan Thapa, is set to hold its first meeting at the party office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, on Friday.
This follows the party’s second special convention, held from Poush 27–30 in Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu, which elected the current committee.
The committee had its first meeting on Magh 1 at the Massey Hall in Kupandol. After the Election Commission officially recognized the party on Magh 2, the second meeting was held on Magh 3 at Arpan Banquet, New Baneshwor. The upcoming Friday meeting will be the first at the party’s own office.
Secretary of the Central Working Committee, Keshav Dulal, informed Nepal Khabar that offices are being prepared and cleaned for the meeting.
According to Congress spokesperson Devaraj Chalise, the Friday meeting will decide on manifesto drafting, election mobilization, formation of subcommittees for election preparations, and will formally designate Thapa as the party’s candidate for Prime Minister.
The meeting comes after the faction of outgoing president Sher Bahadur Deuba, which had filed a writ claiming party legitimacy, was denied an interim order by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. Following this, President Thapa has been preparing to run the party from Sanepa
