Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel has resigned from his post following the election of new leadership and a new central working committee through the party’s special general convention.
Confirming the development, Poudel told Setopati that he stepped down after the new leadership took charge. A new central working committee under the leadership of Gagan Thapa was elected on Poush 30. The committee is scheduled to formally assume office and hold a central committee meeting at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Friday.
Poudel submitted his resignation ahead of the official handover program. He is also a member of the National Assembly.
Earlier, criticism had been raised after Poudel and outgoing acting party president Purna Bahadur Khadka continued to issue notices on the party’s official letterhead despite the selection of new leadership.
