Nepali Congress leader Bhupendra Jung Shahi has withdrawn his candidacy for the House of Representatives election from Kalikot. After not receiving a party ticket, Shahi had filed his nomination as an independent candidate, but he formally withdrew it today at the Election Commission.
The Nepali Congress central leadership, which Shahi had opposed during the party’s special general convention before later siding with it, had awarded the party ticket to Harsha Bahadur Bom.
Shahi had previously contested the House of Representatives elections in 2013 and 2017. Explaining his decision, he said he withdrew his candidacy in accordance with the party’s directive and will now actively campaign in the field to ensure the victory of the party’s official candidate, Harsha Bahadur Bom.
Today is the final day for withdrawing candidacies. The House of Representatives election is scheduled to be held on February 21.
