Senior leader of the Nepal Communist Party, Jhalnath Khanal, has cautioned that the party could face a split if Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ continues making unilateral decisions. Through a social media post this morning, Khanal expressed serious concerns over the fact that, despite a long time since the merger announcement between the Maoist Centre and the Unified Socialist, the party’s leadership committee has not been formed and institutional decision-making processes have not been established.
Khanal criticized the expulsion of senior leaders like Gajurel without giving them an opportunity to explain, calling it a surprising and extremely harsh move. He said that the prolonged delay in forming the leadership committee and the lack of institutional decision-making are matters of concern. According to him, major decisions are increasingly being made based on the preferences of a single individual, and actions are being publicized through media without informing other party leaders, which he termed as contrary to proper methods and procedures.
He has demanded that the action against Gajurel be immediately revoked and called for an urgent meeting of the party leadership. Khanal emphasized the need for serious internal review and discussion before taking such steps. Warning against the rise of autocratic tendencies within the party, he stressed that unless collective decision-making and proper leadership structures are established, the party could face serious setbacks.
Khanal concluded that while ideological unity among communists is crucial with the general election approaching, the current leadership style is creating problems. He warned that if the leadership does not reform, the party, though newly merged, could head towards disarray and even split. Expressing anger over the prevalence of individualistic decision-making over institutional processes, he highlighted the threat this poses, especially amid both internal and external conspiracies against the country.
