A complaint has been filed with the Election Commission against former Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah. The complaint was lodged by Dharmaraj Timilsina.
According to the complaint, Shah’s use of terms such as “killer of 76 children,” “terrorist,” and “one who burns the country” on social media is claimed to undermine the spirit of democratic debate, harm individual reputation, and create the risk of misleading voters.
The complaint states that Shah’s remarks became controversial in the context of a publicly proposed transparent and fact-based debate by CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Citing violations of the Election Code of Conduct, the Constitution, and prevailing laws, the petitioner has demanded that the Election Commission conduct a factual investigation into such expressions and take necessary action.
The complaint also refers to a video allegedly showing the Rastriya Swatantra Party using vehicles with Indian number plates for election campaigning in areas including Mahottari, and has requested the Commission to investigate the truth of the incident and take action accordingly.
