A complaint has been lodged with the Election Commission and the District Police Office against Hark Sampang, a candidate for the House of Representatives from Sunsari-1. Sampang, who is also a former mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, is accused of involving children in his election campaign. The complaint was filed by the Dharan Municipal Child Network.
According to the Child Rights Act, no political party or candidate is allowed to involve children for political purposes. However, the complaint states that Sampang violated Subsection 970 of Section 7, Chapter 2 of the Child Rights Act, 2075, which prohibits the direct or indirect use of children for political purposes.
The Child Network has requested action against the individual. The complaint asks the Election Commission to summon Sampang, discuss the matter, and take disciplinary action for violating the election code of conduct.
The law stipulates that if the use of children for political purposes is proven, the candidate may face a fine of up to NPR 100,000 and could even have their candidacy canceled.
