According to meteorologist Binu Maharjan from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the high hilly and Himalayan regions of the country are currently fully overcast, while the remaining areas are experiencing partly to generally cloudy conditions.
She said Nepal is presently under the influence of a western low-pressure system. Due to this system, moderate rainfall has occurred since last night in many areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, starting from the western parts of the country.
Maharjan informed that light rainfall began in Bagmati Province from this morning. She stated, “At present, Nepal is under the influence of a western low-pressure system. Since last night, this system has brought moderate rainfall to many places in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, starting from the western region, while light rain has started in Bagmati Province since this morning.”
Based on last night’s rainfall data, the highest rainfall of 42.6 millimeters was recorded at the Khani Khola station in Surkhet district. Similarly, 37.8 millimeters of rainfall was measured at Sheragaun station in Rukum East, and 29 millimeters in Dadeldhura. She said many locations in these provinces experienced moderate rainfall.
Providing an outlook for the coming hours, meteorologist Maharjan said there is a possibility of moderate rainfall at some places in the hilly and Himalayan regions. She noted that in the next few hours, moderate rain may occur in parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Additionally, light rainfall is possible at a few places in the hilly regions of Madhesh and Koshi provinces, and at one or two locations in the Terai region of Koshi Province. She added that this weather condition is likely to persist until this evening, after which gradual improvement is expected, with the weather becoming completely clear across the country from tomorrow.
