One person was killed and three others injured in a car accident that occurred early this morning in Sarlahi district.
According to the District Police Office, Sarlahi, the accident took place on Wednesday morning along the East–West Highway at Banke Jungle in Ishworpur Municipality–12. The car bearing registration number Lu. 3 Cha 5472 met with an accident after falling from a diversion into a culvert.
Police said the car was traveling from Kakarbhitta to Butwal when it lost control at a diversion constructed near the Banke Jungle area and plunged into the culvert. Sarlahi DSP Saroj Rai informed that the accident occurred after the vehicle fell from the diversion and struck a pillar of the under-construction culvert.
In the accident, 27-year-old Shubham Jaiswal of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City–1, Rupandehi, died during treatment at Shubhaswastik Hospital in Bardibas.
The injured include the car driver, 23-year-old Sahil Verma of Butwal, along with 48-year-old Brijkishor Verma and 52-year-old Sanjay Jaiswal. All three are currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Police have initially suspected overspeeding as the cause of the accident. The incident was reported at around 2:00 am, after which a police team was dispatched to the scene. The diversion had been arranged to allow vehicles to pass while a culvert was under construction in the area.
