The SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship kicks off today in Bhutan, with Nepal playing its first match against India at Changlimithang Stadium. The match will begin at 2:45 PM NST.
During the pre-match conference held on Tuesday, Nepal’s head coach Chet Narayan Shrestha stated that winning the championship is the team’s main objective. He recalled Nepal’s loss to India in the U-16 category last year on home soil but expressed confidence that this time the team has corrected its mistakes.
“If our players seize the opportunity, we can beat India. We are well prepared, and our target is the title,” Shrestha said. He added that with players from the previous edition still in the squad, performance and coordination have improved significantly.
This year’s championship features only four teams: Nepal, India, Bangladesh, and hosts Bhutan. The tournament will be played in a double round-robin league format, with the team earning the most points crowned champions.
In today’s other fixture, Bhutan will play against Bangladesh.
