Vote counting has begun for the election held to select a member of the House of Representatives in Tanahun Constituency No. 2. The Office of the Chief Returning Officer started the counting process after completing the necessary legal and technical procedures. In this constituency, a contest is expected between the established traditional parties and the newly emerging political force.
The main contenders in this constituency are Nepali Congress candidate Shankar Bhandari, CPN-UML candidate Kedar Sigdel, and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Shriram Neupane. Since the parliamentary elections of 1991, CPN-UML has won five times and Nepali Congress has won twice in this constituency. However, this time the RSP has emerged as a major challenger. In the 2022 election, Nepali Congress candidate Bhandari was elected from this constituency, while the proportional vote difference between UML and Congress was very narrow. In the same election, the RSP also established itself as a strong third force.
Meanwhile, vote counting in Tanahun-1 has been underway since Friday morning. The counting for the House of Representatives election in Tanahun Constituency No. 1 began at 1:00 AM on Friday.
