Jagdish Kharel of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has secured a decisive victory in the House of Representatives election from Lalitpur Constituency No. 2.
Kharel, a former Minister of Communications, received 39,941 votes, leaving his competitors far behind. According to Chief Election Officer Samjhana Simkhada Pudasaini, his closest rival, Nepali Congress candidate Prem Krishna Maharjan, secured only 7,420 votes.
Other candidates included Rajaram Tandukar of Ujyaalo Nepal Party with 5,547 votes and CPN-UML candidate Prem Bahadur Maharjan with 4,536 votes.
Lalitpur-2 has a total of 89,082 registered voters, with 61,975 casting their votes—31,035 women and 30,940 men. A total of 23 candidates, including those from political parties and independents, contested in this constituency.
Kharel resigned from his ministerial post to enter the election and won by a wide margin.
