Former Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has been defeated in the recent House of Representatives election in Rukum West, the constituency he had previously won.
Gopal Sharma of the Nepali Communist Party emerged victorious with 21,609 votes. The runner-up was Nepali Congress candidate Raju KC, who secured 16,661 votes. Janardan Sharma, representing the Progressive Democratic Party, received only 14,346 votes, finishing in third place.
Sharma had previously split from the former CPN (Maoist Centre) when it merged with the Madhav Nepal-led CPN (Unified Socialist) and formed the Progressive Democratic Party. Despite leading in the early counts, Sharma ultimately fell to third place.
