Harkaraj Rai has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Sunsari-1.
Rai secured 35,741 votes, defeating Goma Tamang of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, who received 27,249 votes. Rai won the election by a margin of 8,492 votes.
Rai had resigned from his position as mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City to contest the parliamentary election. With this victory, he has entered national politics from local government for the first time.
Following the announcement of the results, his supporters celebrated the victory in Dharan. Rai stated that his win reflects the people’s desire for change and the trust they placed in him.
