Eight people were injured after five vehicles collided at Daunne along the East–West Highway in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East).
According to Superintendent of Police Yubaraj Khadka of the District Police Office, the accident occurred late at night near Ghiyukhola in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality–2. A container truck registered in India, which was heading east from Sunauli, attempted to overtake on a one-way road section, causing several vehicles to collide with each other.
Motorcycle rider Amar Karki, about 30, from Raskot Municipality–6 in Kalikot District, and pillion rider Mahendra Mahatara, about 25, from Raskot–7, were injured in the accident.
Six passengers traveling in a bus were also injured. According to police, the injured include bus driver Shankar Bista from Smriti Rural Municipality–4 in Rolpa District; Binod Kumar Achhami from Manthali Municipality–12 in Ramechhap District; Udiram Bista from Liwang in Rolpa Municipality–4; Namnuhang Rai from Dharan–15 in Dharan; Darshan Pokhrel from Rolpa Municipality–2; Chandra Singh Thapa from Sunsari Municipality–5 in Sunsari District; and 60-year-old Yagya Prasad Bhusal from Swargadwari Municipality–7 in Pyuthan District.
All the injured have been taken to Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Police said the container truck driver involved in the accident fled the scene and a search is underway. Efforts are also being made to reopen the highway, which was blocked following the crash.
