Police have concluded that 16-year-old Inisha BK from Gurbhakot in Surkhet was raped and murdered after her body was found in a community forest.
According to District Police Office Surkhet spokesperson Mohan Jung Budhathapa, the conclusion was reached after the post-mortem report and statements from the suspects. Police arrested four individuals on Falgun 23 and 24 on suspicion of involvement in the incident and have begun further investigation.
Budhathapa said the post-mortem report showed injuries in the victim’s private parts and severe bleeding, indicating that she may have died after being raped. He stated that the victim’s uterus was torn and excessive bleeding likely caused her death.
Police said that one of the four suspects had reportedly been in a long-term relationship with the victim. The post-mortem report was prepared by a team of doctors from Karnali Province Hospital in Kalagaun along with forensic expert Dr. Arvin Shakya from Bheri Hospital in Banke. The report confirmed that the victim’s sensitive organs were torn due to sexual assault and that she died from heavy bleeding.
Inisha had left home on the morning of Falgun 23 saying she had a practical exam. When she did not return home, her family began searching for her. Later that morning, around 9 AM, she was found unconscious in the Janajagaran Community Forest near Shahid Park in Birendranagar-4.
A young man from Birendranagar-9 who was with her at the scene was immediately taken into custody by police. According to the victim’s family, they were informed through a phone call from an unknown number that their daughter had been found unconscious in the forest near Shahid Park.
Inisha, a Grade 11 student at Usha Balbatika School in Birendranagar-6, had left home around 8 AM but did not return, prompting the family to search for her. Her mother said she fainted upon seeing her daughter’s blood-covered body at the scene, where signs of struggle such as pulled hair, flattened grass, and scattered shoes and socks were visible.
Relatives suspect that she may have been gang-raped before being killed and have demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators and justice for the victim.
