After Israel announced a new attack on Iran, local residents reported strikes across Tehran and several other areas on Friday morning.
According to BBC Persian, the attacks continued until 5 a.m. Many images of the strikes from the Arak region have been shared publicly. Social media posts also confirmed attacks in the Karaj area.
Residents of Tehran described the attacks as so powerful that they were felt like earthquake tremors even from a distance.
Tasnim, a news agency close to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported explosions in southern Tehran.
The Etemad newspaper released a list of areas affected by the attacks on Friday morning. According to the report, the affected areas include Punak, Marzdaran, Eslamshahr, Shahriar, Lavisan, Pardis, Jafranih, Dowlat, Sohrevardi, Naji Abad, and Tehran Pars.
Tensions in the Middle East escalated after a joint U.S.-Israel airstrike on February 28 killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has been launching drone and missile attacks on Gulf countries hosting Israeli and U.S. bases.
Iran has reported that more than 1,300 people have been killed and 8,000 homes destroyed due to the U.S.-Israel attacks. Meanwhile, international media report that seven U.S. military personnel have died and 140 have been injured due to Iran’s retaliatory strikes.
