Private school organizations including PABSON, N-PABSON, HISSAN, and APEN staged a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala, Kathmandu, putting forward a five-point demand.
The protest took place as the government is preparing to finalize the School Education Bill today. Carrying placards with slogans such as “We don’t want non-profit, don’t dissolve companies” and “Don’t impose full scholarships, don’t shut down private schools,” the school operators voiced strong opposition.
Their demands include scrapping the provision that requires schools registered under the Company Act to operate as non-profit institutions, removing the requirement for full scholarships to cover uniforms, stationery, educational materials, and snacks, and ensuring that the authority to manage scholarships rests with the schools instead of local governments.
They have also warned of launching decisive protests starting from August 23 (8th Bhadra) if their demands are not addressed.
