The Supreme Court of Nepal is set to continue hearing today on a writ petition challenging the withdrawal of charges of organized crime and money laundering filed against Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, alongside a cooperative fraud case.
The case was argued on Monday before a joint bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel. However, due to time constraints, the hearing could not be completed and has been scheduled to continue on Tuesday.
Earlier, a preliminary hearing was also held on Sunday. As the arguments remained incomplete, the case was placed under “hearing in progress” and continued on Monday.
A previous bench of the Supreme Court had ordered the petition to be presented for regular hearing, after which detailed deliberations are currently underway.
The government had initiated a process to withdraw the money laundering and organized crime charges previously filed against Lamichhane. Challenging this decision, several legal practitioners filed separate writ petitions at the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the court has indicated that no new decision will be taken in the district court proceedings until the Supreme Court delivers its final verdict. However, the cooperative fraud case against Lamichhane will continue independently.
