The Supreme Court of Nepal is set to continue the hearing on Thursday regarding a writ petition challenging the government’s decision to withdraw cases of money laundering and organized crime filed against Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
The hearing, which has been ongoing since Sunday before a joint bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel, could not be completed on Tuesday and was deferred under a “hearing in progress” status.
According to Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the next hearing has been scheduled for Thursday (Chaitra 5). The session was delayed by a day due to a public holiday in the Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday for the Ghode Jatra festival.
Earlier, a joint bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Shrikanta Paudel had ordered the case to be presented for regular hearing on Chaitra 1.
Attorney General Sabita Bhandari Baral had decided to withdraw the money laundering and organized crime cases filed against Lamichhane during the previous government’s tenure.
Challenging that decision, Yubaraj Paudel, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, and advocate Abhas Regmi filed separate writ petitions at the Supreme Court.
