A corruption case has been filed against four individuals for allegedly misusing the name of Nepali actor Rajesh Hamal.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed the case in the Special Court, accusing officials of Dhakari Rural Municipality in Achham of embezzling NPR 1,277,250 under the pretext of producing a documentary featuring Hamal’s image.
According to the CIAA, Rural Municipality Chairperson Prakash Bahadur Saud, Acting Chief Administrative Officer Laxman Shah, and Accountant Bimal Saud have been charged with misusing public funds. Similarly, Ramji Lamsal (also known as Rambhadur Lamsal), Chairperson of RJ Twenty Four News and Nava Indreni Foundation, has also been named in the case.
Although a budget of NPR 1.5 million had been allocated for the production of a film allegedly involving Hamal’s personal direction, only NPR 1,277,250 was found to have been paid.
The CIAA also noted violations of public procurement laws and regulations in the process.
The anti-corruption body has demanded recovery of the misused amount along with additional penalties, seeking compensation equal to NPR 1,277,250 from the accused.
