Prime Minister Sushila Karki visited the sacred Janaki Temple in Janakpur Dham on Friday, accompanied by her husband, to offer prayers at one of the most revered religious sites for Hindus.
Mahant Ramtapeshwar Das of the Janaki Temple conducted the पूजा rituals for Prime Minister Karki in accordance with Hindu traditions, including a special aarti ceremony. During the visit, Mahant Das honored her with a flower garland and a sacred chunari that had been offered to Goddess Janaki.
While at the temple, Prime Minister Karki also paid respects to the revered 125,000 Shaligram stones that are worshipped daily at the site. She further participated in the ongoing Sita-Ram Akhand Kirtan and spent some time chanting devotional hymns.
Prime Minister Karki entered the temple at 11:40 AM and spent around 15 minutes performing religious rituals. Speaking briefly to the media after the पूजा, she stated that her visit was purely religious, emphasizing that she does not consider herself a political figure in this context.
She expressed happiness and spiritual fulfillment after receiving the blessings of Goddess Janaki, saying the visit gave her a deep sense of devotion.
The Prime Minister arrived in Janakpur via a Nepal Army helicopter and, after a brief interaction with security officials at Janakpur Airport, proceeded to the temple. She was welcomed at the airport by Madhesh Province’s Minister for Home, Communication, and Law, Fakira Mahato, along with local security officials.
Following her temple visit, Prime Minister Karki departed for Gaushala in Mahottari, where she is scheduled to inspect the Nigoul Cow Shelter.
