Arjun Narsingh KC, a senior leader of the Nepali Congress, has said that it would be wrong to judge party leadership solely based on election victory or defeat.
Speaking to journalists on Friday before the party’s central working committee meeting, KC commented that the resignation of party president Gagan Kumar Thapa was not appropriate. He said the leadership that entered the field with a commitment to transform the party and the country should not step down midway in the current situation.
KC argued that party members should not panic because of the election results and urged them to remain patient. He also expressed a positive view toward the Rastriya Swatantra Party, asking it to work for stability, prosperity, and development. He added that the Nepali Congress would support efforts to protect democracy whenever necessary.
He further said that long-standing problems within the party cannot be solved overnight and that expecting a “magical change” within just 50 days is unrealistic. KC made it clear that the leadership of Gagan Thapa is still needed.
Speaking at the party’s central office in Sanepa, he said discussions are currently underway regarding Thapa’s resignation and the results of the House of Representatives election.
