Continuous rainfall has caused a blockage on the BP Highway. The temporary diversions built over the Roshi River were washed away by the river, leading to the highway closure.
According to SP Komal Shah, Chief of the District Police Office, the diversions in Roshi Rural Municipality at Charsaybesi, Gimdi, Daunne, and Kaldhunga were swept away by the river.
“The highway runs along the bank of the Roshi River in many sections, and the increased water flow has entered the highway, making it completely impassable,” SP Shah said.
Authorities, including the Department of Roads and local government, are working to reopen the highway. Travelers have been urged to check the road conditions before traveling.
Vehicles from Kavre are being held at Bhakunde and Katunje. Similarly, vehicles coming via the Sindhuli section of the highway are being held at the Dumja police checkpoint and the District Police Office, Sindhuli, SP Lal Dhwaj Subedi said.
The section between Bhakunde and Nepalthok, damaged by heavy rainfall in 2081 and 2082 BS, is still under construction. During the construction, traffic was being diverted over the riverbed of the Roshi River.
