A tourism promotion campaign titled ‘Jaun Hai Pokhara’ has been launched targeting major cities of eastern Nepal with the main objective of boosting domestic tourism.
The program is organized by Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) Pokhara in coordination with the Nepal Tourism Board, Gandaki Province Office. The campaign will run until Chaitra 13.
According to HAN Pokhara President Laxman Subedi, the campaign—running for the past 22 years—will include promotional programs in cities such as Birgunj, Hetauda, Biratnagar, and Ilam.
A 19-member team comprising tourism entrepreneurs, hotel operators, and media personnel from Pokhara will engage with tourism stakeholders in eastern Nepal through discussions, interactions, and distribution of promotional materials. Attractive domestic tourism packages will also be unveiled during the campaign.
The initiative also aims to invite people from eastern Nepal to the 21st edition of the Fewa New Year Festival, scheduled from Chaitra 29 to Baisakh 1 along the lakeside of Phewa Lake.
The festival promotes Nepali art, culture, tourism, and cuisine. Chief of the Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki Province, Maniraj Lamichhane, stated that such campaigns will help strengthen Pokhara’s identity as the tourism capital and a top destination for visitors.
The campaign also aims to enhance tourism partnerships between eastern Nepal and Pokhara. Discussions will be held to resume regular direct flights from cities like Bhadrapur and Biratnagar to Pokhara, and to introduce quality tourist bus services connecting these cities.
According to Subedi, around NPR 6 billion has been invested in Pokhara’s hotel sector, with approximately 1,200 hotels providing direct employment to about 15,000 people.
