The Federal Parliament Secretariat is actively preparing for the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected members of the House of Representatives. Earlier, through a notice issued on Chaitra 5, the Secretariat had already called on elected lawmakers to attend the ceremony.
The oath ceremony is scheduled for Chaitra 12 at 2:00 PM. Lawmakers have been requested to arrive at least two hours earlier, dressed either in formal attire or in clothing reflecting their cultural identity.
Prior to that, the senior-most member of the House, 78-year-old Arjun Narsingh KC, will take the oath before Ram Chandra Paudel at Sheetal Niwas on Chaitra 11. Following this, he will administer the oath to other newly elected members on Chaitra 12.
According to the Constitution of Nepal, Article 88 mandates that every member of the Federal Parliament must take an oath before participating in any parliamentary meeting or committee session for the first time. Similarly, Article 91(5) provides that in the absence of a Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the senior-most member present chairs the meeting.
After the oath ceremony, lawmakers will be provided with official materials, including the parliamentary emblem, a copy of the Constitution, parliamentary regulations, and documents related to services and facilities.
Spokesperson Ekaram Giri stated that preparations are underway at the multipurpose hall of the under-construction Federal Parliament building in Singha Durbar. While physical infrastructure work inside the hall has been completed, final technical arrangements are still in progress. Security and other logistical preparations are also being handled.
As per constitutional provisions, a parliamentary session is convened by the President upon the recommendation of the government. The Secretariat will proceed with session preparations once the session is officially called.
Following the recent elections held on Falgun 21, the composition of political parties in Parliament has changed. The Rastriya Swatantra Party secured 182 seats, Nepali Congress 38 seats, Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) 25 seats, Communist Party of Nepal 17 seats, Shram Sanskriti Party 7 seats, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party 5 seats, along with one independent lawmaker.
The Secretariat has arranged parliamentary party offices based on the strength of each party. Existing offices of Nepali Congress and UML remain unchanged, while office space previously used by other parties has been reassigned accordingly. These are temporary arrangements, and once the new Parliament building is completed, all party offices will be relocated there. Each lawmaker will also be provided with an individual chamber in the new building.
