The deadline for the Muglin–Pokhara Road Project (Eastern Section) has been extended for the fourth time. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has granted an extension for the section from Jamune to Aanbukhaireni in Tanahun.
According to project engineer Bishnu Prasad Pandey, the deadline has now been extended until October 11 (Asoj 25). The third extension had expired on July 13 (Ashad 29).
Out of the 41.5-kilometer stretch between Aanbukhaireni and Jamune, blacktopping of four lanes has already been completed. As some additional works remained aside from the blacktopping, the project office recommended an extension to the ministry.
“All blacktopping has been completed, with six lanes in Damauli bazaar and four lanes elsewhere. Road marking in most places is also complete. Only minor works are left, which is why we requested additional time,” Pandey said.
The blacktopping was completed within three years of the agreement and an additional 456 days. The agreement for the eastern section was signed on Magh 17, 2077 B.S. (January 30, 2021), and work commenced on Baisakh 2, 2078 B.S. (April 15, 2021).
The construction contract was awarded to China Communication Construction Company. The road, originally surveyed in 1969 (2026 B.S.), has faced increasing traffic pressure over the years, leading to its expansion with Asian Development Bank (ADB) support.
