On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the promulgation of Nepal’s Constitution, the government has formed the Main Ceremony Committee for Constitution Day and National Day 2082 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Constitution Day is observed on Asoj 3 (September 20, 2015), the historic day when the Constitution of Nepal was promulgated by the Constituent Assembly elected by the people, establishing the country as a federal democratic republic. Marking a decade since its promulgation, the Government of Nepal has announced plans to celebrate the day with greater joy and grandeur this year.
A meeting held today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar, decided to celebrate the day on Asoj 2, 3, and 4 through various events, including lighting of lamps (Deeplavali), both within Nepal and at Nepali embassies and missions abroad, as well as among the general public.
The main ceremony committee will include the Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, Ministers of State, the Chief Secretary, the Chief of Army Staff, Secretaries of the Government of Nepal, senior gazetted officers, chiefs and deputy chiefs of local governments in the Kathmandu Valley, and heads of security agencies, with the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs serving as Member-Secretary. The meeting also decided to form thematic sub-committees.
The main ceremony will be held on Asoj 3 at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, Kathmandu, with the participation of the general public. Various programs have also been proposed at the provincial and local levels. On this occasion, events such as the National Anthem and Patriotic Musical Festival (National Day Concert), cultural tableaux exhibitions, and other performances have been planned.
In addition, special dialogues, panel discussions, and message-oriented plays highlighting the historical background of the Constitution, its importance, and its core values will be organized. These creative and informative programs will be broadcast and published by Radio Nepal, Nepal Television, community and private media outlets, and through social media platforms.
Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Oli urged that the 10th anniversary of the Constitution’s promulgation be celebrated in a special manner both nationally and at the grassroots level. He emphasized linking the Constitution with aspects such as development, nationalism, modernity, fundamental rights, women’s empowerment, inclusivity, welfare state, and culture. The Prime Minister further called for organizing programs at ward and school levels to more deeply connect the people with the achievements and significance of the Constitution.
