
Private and boarding school organizations — PABSON, National PABSON, HISSAN, and OPEN — staged a peaceful protest on Monday against the government’s plan to phase out private schools through the upcoming Federal Education Act.
Gathering at Maitighar Mandala, demonstrators wore black armbands and chanted slogans to oppose several provisions in the School Education Bill.
They demanded the removal of mandatory full scholarships, the requirement for schools to provide materials not produced internally, and the provision that seeks to convert private schools into “non-profit” institutions.
Protesters also carried placards with messages such as “The state’s burden on teachers, private schools bear the cost,” “Quality education — private schools’ commitment,” and “Education for national development, foundation for nation-building.
